International Folklore Festival in Zagreb / Kroatien

The International Folklore Festival is one of the top events of folklore expressions in Croatia, namely an event representing amateur folklore groups dedicated to preserving and presenting local heritage. The event has been taking place in Zagreb since 1966, continuing the tradition of the Festival of Croatian Village Culture that was organized in the 1930s. The International Folklore Festival aims to present and promote traditional values of all nations and cultures, contributing to the efforts of preserving cultural diversities in the globalized world. The program is drawn up by experts, ethnologists and folklorists who are in constant contact with contemporary life of Croatian traditional culture as heritage.

Zagreb Concert Management, as the traditional organizer of the Festival, has been contributing to the efforts of presenting and ensuring the affirmation of heritage and of promoting the idea of cultural diversity as one of the general human values.

The 46th International Folklore Festival, which will be held in Zagreb from 18 to 22 July 2012, will with its central theme focus the attention to the contents of the folklore scene performed by children and will be addressed CHILDREN AND FOLKLORE.

Apart from children’s groups, the 46th International Folklore Festival will bring together the folklore groups of adults from Croatia and other countries. Among them there will be some of the emigrant groups who could not participate in the 2011 Festival program dedicated to Croats scattered around the world.
As the previous ones, the Festival will also include an exhibition (in connection with the children in folklore), concerts of traditional church music and world music, and numerous dance and music workshops.
